Help center
Everything you need to install Shofar Bot, publish your first embed, and understand your quota — on one page. Still stuck? Open a ticket from the dashboard.
Getting started
From invite to your first published embed in under a minute.
1. Add the bot to your server
Click “Add to Discord”, pick your server, and confirm. You need the “Manage Server” permission in Discord to authorize a bot. Your server starts on the Free plan — no credit card.
2. Run /embed new
The dashboard is where you create, manage, and publish embeds. `/embed new` opens the visual editor there; you can still publish saved drafts and templates from Discord if you want a quicker path.
3. Publish or schedule
Pick a channel and publish right away, or set a date and time in your server's timezone. Scheduled embeds go out within 60 seconds of the chosen time, even if the bot restarts.
Commands
Every command replies ephemerally — only you see the response. /help, /invite, and /vote also work in the bot's DMs.
| Command | What it does | Plan |
|---|---|---|
/embed new | Opens the dashboard editor to create, manage, and publish an embed from scratch. | All plans |
/embed send draft:<name> | Publishes a saved draft straight from Discord. Uses 1 message from your quota. | Starter and up |
/embed template name:<name> | Creates a message from a saved template, pre-filled and ready to adjust. | Starter and up |
/usage | Shows how many messages you've used this week, how many remain, and the exact next reset date. | All plans |
/plan | Shows your server's current plan, monthly price, weekly quota, and upgrade link. | All plans |
/invite | Returns the link to add Shofar Bot to another server. | All plans |
/vote | Returns your top.gg vote link. Voting credits 5 bonus messages to the weekly quota of the server you ran it from. | All plans |
/help | Shows a summary of this page inside Discord, in your server's language. | All plans |
Permissions the bot asks for
Shofar Bot asks for the bare minimum needed to publish embeds — never administrator, and never access to channels you don't authorize. It also doesn't read your server's message content: it works through commands and interactions only.
- View Channels — to list the channels you can publish to.
- Send Messages — to publish the embed in the channel you pick.
- Embed Links — so the embed renders instead of falling back to plain text.
Embed limits
These limits come from Discord itself and apply to every bot, on every plan. Your Shofar Bot plan only decides how many of the 25 fields you can use — from 2 on Free up to all 25 on Max. The editor shows the counter before you hit the limit.
- 25 fields per embed
- 256 characters in the title and in each field name
- 4,096 characters in the description
- 1,024 characters in each field value
- 2,048 characters in the footer
- 10 embeds and 6,000 characters total per message
Weekly quota and plans
Each server has a quota of published messages per week, from 5 on Free up to 150 on Max. It resets every 7 days on a cycle anchored to the date your server subscribed — billing is monthly, but the quota reset runs on its own independent cycle. Run /usage for the exact number and next reset date. Voting on top.gg through /vote credits 5 bonus messages to the current window.
Features by plan
Drafts and templates unlock at Starter; scheduling at Plus; pagination and removing the branding footer at Pro. On Free, using a locked feature shows a clear upgrade notice instead of a confusing error.
- Drafts and reusable templates — Starter and up
- Scheduling in your server's timezone — Plus and up
- Pagination with ◀/▶ buttons — Pro and up
- Remove the “Scheduled with Shofar” footer — Pro and up
Troubleshooting
Most publishing problems are a missing permission on the specific channel rather than on the whole server — Discord lets permissions be overridden per channel.
- “No permission to send in this channel” — re-grant View Channels, Send Messages, and Embed Links on that channel and try again.
- The command doesn't appear when you type “/” — close and reopen Discord; global commands can take up to 1 hour to show up after install.
- The embed came out as plain text — the Embed Links permission is missing on that channel.
- A scheduled send didn't go out on time — if your weekly quota ran out, it isn't lost: it publishes automatically once the quota resets.
- You removed and re-added the bot — your plan, drafts, and templates are still saved and come back with the server.
Billing and cancellation
Plans are billed monthly in US dollars (USD) through Discord's own subscription system. Upgrade or downgrade whenever you want — the change applies from the next checkout. To cancel, use the subscription page in your dashboard: your server keeps its current plan until the end of the paid period, then drops back to Free on its own, no ticket needed.
Frequently asked questions
What permissions does the bot request on my server?
Shofar Bot only requests the minimum permissions needed to post embeds: view channels, send messages, and embed links. It never asks for administrator access or channels you haven't authorized.
How does the weekly message quota work?
Every plan includes a weekly quota of published messages, from 5 on the Free plan up to 150 on Max. It resets every 7 days, on a cycle anchored to the date your server subscribed — independent of your monthly billing date.
What are Discord's own limits for embeds?
Discord itself caps every embed at 25 fields, regardless of plan. Your Shofar Bot plan controls how many of those 25 you can use — from 2 on Free up to the full 25 on Max — so you always know your exact limit before you hit it.
How does payment work?
Plans are billed monthly in USD through Discord's own subscription system (or a supported payment provider). You can upgrade or downgrade at any time — the change applies to your next checkout, and your weekly quota keeps its own independent reset schedule.
How do I cancel?
Cancel anytime from your dashboard's subscription page. Your server keeps its current plan until the paid period ends, then automatically moves back to the Free plan — no support ticket required.
Still need help?
Open a support ticket from your server's dashboard — from 2 tickets per week on Free up to 20 on Max. Prefer email? Write to support@shofarbot.com; average response time is within 2 business days.
